Are you ready to push your work to the next level?
In this fast moving workshop we will explore specific concepts to push your creativity. Color, contrast, composition and limitations will all be explored. What makes one painting look finished and another incomplete? We will look at examples of both your work and others leaving you with clear ideas to improve your work. Melinda will be focusing on the figure but other subject matter may be explored. Bring a list of your art goals and Melinda will guide each individual with suggestions to reach those goals.
***This workshop is for intermediate to advanced oil and acrylic painters. Enrollment is limited to increase individual attention.
Workshop Schedule:
Friday, Day 1:
- 9:30 – 4:00 - Workshop
- We will break for lunch. There are many wonderful eateries within walking distance. I hope to have us all eat together at least one of the three days!
Saturday, Day 2:

MEET MELINDA COOTSONA
Melinda Cootsona is a figurative painter in Northern California. Greatly influenced by the Bay Area artistic tradition, her paintings focus on the strength of the female figure. The paintings are created with layers of oil paint, applied and then scraped away revealing figures that fill the canvas in varying poses of contemplation or reflection in abstracted surroundings. Whether in a soft or harsh surrounding, the strength of the female figure is primary.
Melinda has been included in exhibitions at the Bakersfield Museum of Art and the Triton Museum in California, The San Francisco Art Market, The Coos Bay Museum of Art in Oregon, and Art Basel Miami, as well as many group and solo shows throughout the U.S.
Cootsona received her BA from the California College of the Arts. Her work can be found in collections in the United States, Europe, Australia, and China.

If you are flying in, the closest airport to the studio is Santa Ana - John Wayne Airport. It is about 5 miles away from the studio, with several hotels nearby as well. Our clients' favorite hotels are listed below.

Workshop Policies: Due to limited class size, payment is non-refundable, but is transferable ONLY if the workshop sells out. If you purchase a workshop and are unable to attend, AND if there is a wait list for the course, we will offer your spot to a person on the wait list. If someone on the wait list is able to take your spot, we will reimburse you your tuition, minus a $75 admin fee for handling the replacement. If you are unable to attend the workshop, and the workshop has not sold out with a wait list, we will not be able to refund your purchase.
