Description
Do you have moments of complete frustration with your work? We all do.
In this course Melinda will help you to embrace those moments and learn to work with the idea of Chaos and ‘The Uglies’ in your paintings for as long as possible in order to achieve rich work with history and lasting interest. We will look at the Elements of Design to give you some concrete ideas in abstraction that can help a painting move forward. These Elements, mixed with several Approaches to Figurative Abstraction will spark your creativity and give you lots to work on going forward. Join Melinda Cootsona in this fast-paced workshop as we learn to “Stay in the Play” to find our most authentic work. This workshop is for intermediate to advanced level students. Oil paint or Acrylic paint is acceptable. Some cold wax techniques (for oil painters) will be discussed, however, this is not a cold wax specific course.

MEET MELINDA COOTSONA
Melinda Cootsona is a figurative painter in Northern California. Greatly influenced by the Bay Area artistic tradition, her paintings focus on the strength of the female figure. The paintings are created with layers of oil paint, applied and then scraped away revealing figures that fill the canvas in varying poses of contemplation or reflection in abstracted surroundings. Whether in a soft or harsh surrounding, the strength of the female figure is primary.
Melinda has been included in exhibitions at the Bakersfield Museum of Art and the Triton Museum in California, The San Francisco Art Market, The Coos Bay Museum of Art in Oregon, and Art Basel Miami, as well as many group and solo shows throughout the U.S.
Cootsona received her BA from the California College of the Arts. Her work can be found in collections in the United States, Europe, Australia, and China.
