DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS
Embark on an insightful sculpting odyssey with our Safari Sculpture Course, an intellectually crafted series inspired by images from an African Safari undertaken in 2022. This meticulously structured course comprises three lessons, each focusing on sculpting animals of the African savannah: the giraffe, warthog, and elephant.
In Lesson 1, we will explore the intricate details of giraffe anatomy through a systematic study of skeletal structures. Acquaint yourself with the utilization of two clay types, carefully used to create the grace of the giraffe's elongated neck, legs, and slender tail. Delve into advanced techniques to strengthen all of the body parts, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
In the second lesson, navigate the details of sculpting a warthog, complete with meticulous attention to realistic details such as mane and tail. Delve into the application of a shared armature for both standing and sitting poses, emphasizing the significance of versatility in sculptural composition.
Conclude the course with an exploration of the elephant's features, emphasizing texture while showing the intricacies of floppy ears, and the iconic tusks. Gain proficiency in sculpting elephants in both standing and walking postures, enriching your repertoire of sculptural poses.
Join me on this jubilant safari adventure, where each lesson is a burst of color and creativity! Let's sculpt, laugh, and create memories together. Don't miss the chance to take your sculpting prowess to the next level!

MEET KATHY LEWIS - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR
I began taking online art classes, met Kara Strachan Bullock, and took almost all of the workshops she hosted at her local studio. I was in heaven to have this new friend and later her wonderful studio located less that 20 minutes away from home. I also continued online courses and some wonderful artists had an awesome affect on my art journey. For this class I was mentored and influenced by a favorite sculptor, Nick Mackman. I was fortunate enough to study under her while on my African Safari in 2022.
When working with clay I feel peace and joy unlike anything ever before experienced. I have not put it down more than six years and continue to find great pleasure in creating with clay. It is my 'go to' art medium. I create purely from the heart having had no formal sculpting education. I hope to spread the joy of creating in clay, something that young and old, beginner and experienced can enjoy. I hope you can experience the feeling I heard in my granddaughter's comment recently when she said, "Grandma, I am so happy making this (clay sculpture). It is the most wonderful thing I have ever made."
