Description
Discover how your smallest ideas can grow into bold, expressive works of art in this mixed media collage workshop with Kara Bullock. Over the course of several days, you’ll explore how simple collage play can spark powerful concepts for larger paintings and mixed media pieces. You’ll begin with a live online session where Kara will guide you through using Midjourney and Canva to generate and edit your own imagery—references that truly reflect your unique vision. Once in the studio, you’ll spend a full day experimenting with collage, uncovering new shapes, stories, and compositions. The following days will be devoted to transforming those small explorations into layered, expressive mixed media or acrylic works. This workshop is designed to help you open up, try new things, and discover exciting possibilities in your artistic process.
Our Workshop will Begin Online Prior to the Workshop via Zoom
April 28th - 10:00am - 1:00PM PST
We’ll begin two weeks before the in-person workshop with a live Zoom session where Kara will introduce you to Midjourney and Canva. You’ll learn how to generate imagery, edit your references, and manipulate your ideas into compelling visual starting points.
A subscription to both programs is required to follow along (trial versions are available - ask Kara if they are sufficient if you will be using trials).
During this online session, Kara will also guide you through what to print, what sizes to bring, and how to prepare your imagery so you arrive at the studio inspired and ready.
Part 2 of Our Workshop will Be in My Studio in Tustin!
May 15 –9:00 - 3:00
- Collage Exploration
A full day of cutting, arranging, layering, and discovering new ideas through collage. This is where your visual sparks start to catch fire.

Using your collage work as a springboard, you’ll create larger mixed media pieces or acrylic paintings. You’ll experiment with new techniques, bold choices, fresh compositions, and a variety of materials. Expect to stretch yourself, try new things, and uncover unexpected pathways in your art.
This workshop is designed to be joyful, exploratory, and deeply inspiring. You’ll walk away with new tools, new perspectives, and plenty of ideas to bring home to your own art practice.
Come ready to play, create, and let your imagination lead the way. Your small beginnings are about to grow into beautiful, meaningful works of art.

MEET KARA BULLOCK
I am Kara Bullock, a self-taught artist, educator, and entrepreneur based in Southern California. For over a decade, I taught in elementary classrooms and later at the university level, where I specialized in education, child development, and online teaching. My love for art began as a personal hobby, a way to nurture creativity while balancing a busy teaching career and raising a family.
In 2013, after taking a few online art classes myself, I had a realization: I could combine my love for teaching with my passion for art to create something new. In 2015, I launched Kara Bullock Art School, starting with a single course called Let’s Face It. What began as a small experiment has since grown into a thriving global art community, with hundreds of courses taught by professional artists from around the world.
At the heart of everything I do is my passion for people living lives they truly love. I believe that a fulfilling life includes creative expression, but also the freedom to choose your own path—whether that means creating art for joy or building a business as your own boss.
