Wouldn't it Be Awesome to Grow Your Paint Palette So it Supports Your Vision and Evolves With You as an Artist?....

In this mini course, FROM A LIMITED TO PERSONAL PALETTE, Kimberly Santini guides you through the process of building a color palette that starts with intention and evolves into something uniquely yours. You'll begin by selecting a limited palette that teaches you how your colors interact and what emotional or visual impact they create. From there, you'll explore how to expand that palette thoughtfully—based on your personal preferences and what your artwork is asking for. This course offers clear guidance, practical exercises, and insight to help you define the role color plays in your style. Whether you’re working in paint, pastel, or another medium, you’ll walk away with a palette that supports your creative vision. It’s time to make color personal.

DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS

Let’s build a color palette that delivers results and stamps the artwork as identifiably our own. Beyond strictly representational use, color is a very personal language. So let’s learn how to speak it fluently and then build our own unique dialect.

Through working a limited palette, we become intimately familiar with the range of possibilities. Let’s begin by structuring this approach to reflect how we as individuals see and process color, and then use this framework to expand and grow the realm of choices we desire in our work.

Santini 2025 Limited Palette 2
Santini 2025 Limited Palette 1

This mini course walks students through successful selection of  limited palette origins so as to maximize the range of color options at the onset. As the student organically learns to leverage these choices and articulate what may be missing based on their own color leanings, specific guidance is provided to encourage further color exploration and growth. Over time, this refining and expansion of the original limited parameters results in a unique collection of color that stamps resulting art with a palette distinctive to that artist.

***This approach can be adapted to all medium involving color mixing. I will be teaching using acrylics.

MEET KIM SANTINI - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR

Santini_2025_Kim_and_Bloom

Kimberly Kelly Santini is a small town girl from the thumb of Michigan. She spent her childhood wandering the neighboring woods and farmland until suppertime, filling her head and sketchbook with the things she experienced.

She has a BFA in Painting and a BA in Art History from Michigan State University. She completed half of an MFA at California State, Los Angeles before leaving the program for health reasons. She has run her studio business since 2000.

Kimberly established a daily painting practice in 2006 (PaintingADogADay.com). For well over a decade she delivered 3-5 small commissioned portraits weekly while managing a waitlist over a year long. Her art is collected worldwide and has been exhibited to great success. She has worked with the American Kennel Club and was honored as the official artist of the 2015 Kentucky Derby. She continues to paint and teach from her home studio, along with community involvement and volunteerism. She is the parent of three adult children who grew up as integral parts of the studio (and were featured regularly in her PaingingaDogsDay blog sharing painting and life snippets).

Kimberly is a lifelong learner, always actively seeking experiences to guide her in raising the bar. She has studied with many artists over the years, but learned significantly from Vianna Szabo, Alyssa Monks, Anne Siems, Stuart Shils, Lynn Whipple, Stanka Kordic and Zoey Frank. She prefers books over TV or movies, loves long walks with the dogs and has become obsessed with gardening (roses and dahlias in particular).

She runs a membership program where students learn to align their lives and artwork in uniquely satisfying way. Nothing gives her joy like students encountering ah-ha moments as they piece things together for themselves. She cannot wait to experience that with you!

Really appreciate hearing Kimberly’s process for determining what tubes of paint to add.

  2. shelly broughton (verified owner)

SUPER informative! Really great information. I kept thinking there would be demonstrations, though, of you doing mixing, etc. I may have misunderstood the class description, but I would still buy the class! Looking forward to the class in June. Thank you for sharing so thoroughly, Kim.

Hi Kim, I completed this class re colors over yesterday and today. I just loved it. I found I had some of those colors you mentioned but never use them. I made so many notes and will now try so many things. I’m EXCITED to experiment more. Thank you so much.

  4. aneedel21 (verified owner)

The color knowledge that Kim has acquired over a 20 year painting journey is extremely valuable. She shares why each color ended up in her palette, why she almost never uses a color straight from the tube, why she doesn’t use black and so much more. I highly recommend this class to everyone!

  5. Angelique Gillespie (verified owner)

well done Kimberly. I have used the split color wheel for 30 years and now realize that I should look at changing some of the colors that I used. I liked the Titan Colors and accidentally bought some of them a year ago. I feel encouraged to try them out now. it was a very solid presentation and one that deserves rewatching from time to time just to refresh myself to try something new. Thank You.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely loved this simplified color palette course. The explanations of color properties were clear, insightful, and easy to follow. I especially enjoyed how Kim not only taught the techniques but also shared the reasons behind her color choices in her own work. It gave the lessons real depth and helped me understand how to apply these concepts creatively. Highly recommend!

  7. Stacie Craig (verified owner)

This little class is so worth the small amount of time and money. Kim’s color journey story is very relatable (and humorous) and I immediately learned the answers to some of my own, long-time dilemmas. And she solved some problems I didn’t know I had! She’s also a fabulous teacher and I am now even more excited for her new class to start. Thank you Kim!

  8. Ellen (Henriette) Kempers (verified owner)

This was Wonderful information nicely presented! Do you use a medium?

  9. Michelle Lane (verified owner)

I recently took this course and can’t recommend it high enough. Kimberly is not only a talented artist but also a generous and engaging instructor. Her insights to creating a palette that works for you is invaluable. Whether you are a beginner or experienced artist, there’s so much to gain from this class.

  10. AnnieKate Phillips (verified owner)

This is an excellent explanation of color whether you choose exactly the same Golden paints she uses or not, and actually whether you use acrylic paint or oil. The information is presented in terms anyone can understand. I am an experienced painter of over 40 years, and I found it very wise and helpful. Particularly like the statement: “Instead of using color as a mechanism to mix and match to an external resource, use color as a mechanism to amplify your own creative voice.” Full of color info and creative wisdom. Definitely recommend it.

  11. Beth Haywood (verified owner)

Excellent review of how and why you choose colors for your personal palette. I have not come across this information elsewhere. Very enjoyable.

  12. Susan Mortensen (verified owner)

Loved it! Clear and concise. I liked that it was how to create your own palette and personalize it. Kim was very good at explaining how and why she does things the way she does.

  13. Mina Schultes (verified owner)

I consider myself a fairly experienced painter and thoroughly enjoyed this short color workshop from Kim. Her color choices and reasoning resonate with me so it will be easy to apply some new ideas into my practice. One thing additional is that I like to use residual paint for underpainting future paintings. I sometimes mix them all together which usually results in a mid tone gray or will just overlap them as is, on the canvas. I try to keep the mixture either on the warm or cool side. This seems to work out great and gives me a good base over the gesso. Overall Kim’s demonstration is spot on and I highly recommend it. TY Kim!! Great information.

  14. Lorie Taylor (verified owner)

Excellent course. Thoughtful, well stated and insightful.

  15. Paula Segnitz (verified owner)

I love Kim’s palette layout and her explanation of how she arrived there and how it continues to evolve. It opens up so many possibilities and has impacted my approach to my own layout and how I can expand it without becoming overwhelmed. Thank you!!!
