Let’s Face It 2017 is Here!!! Yahoo!!!

Hello Fabulous, Creative, Art-Loving Friends!!!  I am so happy that you have made it here and are ready to hear all about the exciting, all-new LET’S FACE IT 2017!!  I have been working so hard on the 2017 version for the past year and am thrilled to finally get to tell you all about it!

For those of you that haven’t heard, LET’S FACE IT is a year-long, online course, dedicated to creating portraits.  It was first established in January 2016 by me, Kara Bullock.  I have always had a love for drawing and creating faces and portraits, but early on, I became so frustrated with not getting the face or portrait just quite right, so, as a teen, I decided I was just not cut out for creating portraits.  Then a few years ago, I started creating again, and of course, was drawn to portraiture.  I became a part of an amazing online art community and quickly found that so many others had the same fears as I did.  We all had fears of not being good enough, not getting the features in the right place, fears of hands and feet, etc.!  FEARS, FEARS, and more FEARS!  Blah!!!!

picmonkey-collage2

My daughter, Charlotte, drew this picture of me at the age of 5.  She had no fear!

Having a background in education (teacher since 1998), and teaching education courses to adults online since 2008, I came up with the idea of mixing my love for art, with my love for educating others, and decided to put myself out there, and invite others to join me in a year of facing fears of creating portraits.  While there were many amazing portrait courses available, I couldn’t find one that took place for a full year.  I thought what fun it would be to really get to teach how to properly get proportions correct and features in the right place, and to track it over a WHOLE year.  So, the very first, year-long, online, portrait course was created!!!  The first year is still running, and we already have 950+ people in class!  The response has been amazing and I feel very fortunate to be a part of this amazing community!

Because I am a teacher, I felt it would be really great to have focus areas, too, like a course you might take in school or college.  So, in year one, we focused on the front face, 3/4 face, the profile, hands and the body.  A bit more basic, focusing on structure and getting “things” in the “right” places.  2016 is an amazing course for someone that is just getting started, but also for the advanced learner.  I also came up with “Tips and Tricks with Kara” which are weekly tips focused on art materials and/or other related art topics.  These have been so fun to make!  Lastly, we have weekly journal prompts just to encourage the constant practice of drawing faces and people in your journals!  There really is something for everyone.

Learn more about LET’S FACE IT 2016 here.

PicMonkey Collage(21)

In 2017, we will dig deeper, and focus on values, skin tones, hands AGAIN, challenging angles, and expressive poses.  We will learn more about creating beautiful backgrounds, different expressions, ages (old and young), and even some sculpture!!!  You will also continue to receive tips and tricks from Kara AND this year, the guest instructors will also share tips and tricks with you!!  Lastly, you will have weekly practice prompts!  This is sort of like your homework.  Now please remember, you don’t have to do everything!!!  There is so much wrapped up into this course AND the BEST PART is that you ONLY  have to do what you want to do AND you have LIFETIME access to this course!!!! WHAT!?!?!??!

Hi, I mom took the 2016 class and did such beautiful work! I want to take this class to learn how to make beautiful works too! Love the teacher lineup and the variety, looks like fun!

  2. Emily D Geleske on September 9, 2016 at 1:41 PM

YAY! I would really love to win a spot in this class. I struggle so much with portraits too. I think I have a decent grasp on the drawing part, but once I start painting my values disappear and skin tones turn scary (think zombie women, YIKES). I need help!

I also shared the post on FB 🙂

  3. Anna Karena on September 9, 2016 at 1:49 PM

I would very much like to win a free spot in this year long course. I have committed to making art the center of my focus since last January after having put it on the bench more years than I care to admit. I have committed to making art in some way every day and I have, except when I had surgery. I am still sesrching for my unique voice and I know it has something to do with faces in some way. I would be honored if I was selected for a free spot.

  4. Debbie Riddle on September 9, 2016 at 1:55 PM

Thanks for the opportunity to win a spot! I have enjoyed the class this year so much. I want to start dedicating more time to my art… especially faces. My life has been in turmoil for awhile but things are settling down so I can commit more time. I would love to continue my journey with you again.

  5. 5thsister on September 9, 2016 at 2:05 PM

I would so love to win a spot in your Let’s Face It workshop. I am a self taught artist whose dream is to, some day, work on my art full time. Because I am self taught there are always those lingering questions and negative voices that bully my creative process by inserting themselves into my thought process: “is this good enough?”, “No one is going to appreciate that”, and “You’re too old to learn something new”.

I do believe attending a workshop such as this would provide me with the confidence and feedback to pursue my dreams.

    Thank you!

  6. Kendra Stone on September 9, 2016 at 2:09 PM

Ohh my goodness, thanks for the chance to win a spot! I would love to learn from the amazing line up of teachers for 2017. I have set up a studio in my dining room and have been working in it at least 4 days a week now. I am soaking up as much as I can, playing, exploring and trying all sorts of techniques as I figure out who I am as an artist and find my own style. I love learning to draw and paint the human form and faces. Winning a spot would be well… awesome!

  7. chrissieenglandart on September 9, 2016 at 2:27 PM

Hi Kara – I love the line up of teachers – so many new teachers but so many of them I know as fellow students whose work I love. I’ve shared ( and will continue to do so ) the post on FB and I’d love to win a slot! I’ve enjoyed this first year of LFI (for me anyway) and look forward to what 2017 will bring! Thanks so much for putting all this together – with such love and care especially!! xo

  8. Kendra Stone on September 9, 2016 at 2:28 PM

Ok, take two, it seems my comment did not post… Ohh my goodness thanks for the opportunity to win a spot! The lineup of teachers looks absolutely amazing. I have turned half of my dining room into a studio and have been working in it at least 4 days a week. I am soaking up as much as I can, playing, exploring and learning new techniques. I love learning to draw and paint the human figure and faces. Winning a spot would be awesome!

  9. Lani McPherson on September 9, 2016 at 2:30 PM

Let’s Face It 2016 has shown me that I love painting and I love Faces! My personal growth has been beyond amazing in such a short time! I love the community of support and the new friends I have made! I would love to win a spot in 2017 because Kara and the teacher line up is so amazing! I know I could grow even more in this fantastic journey!

I feel like I am making up for lost time. I have been so inspired and want to continue to grow as an artist. Thanks for the opportunity to Win!

  13. makinghealthyconnections on September 9, 2016 at 3:01 PM

How exciting! All those amazing teachers. What a great opportunity.
I’d love to grow through this class and be so blessed to learn.

  14. Lisa on September 9, 2016 at 3:02 PM

I have a very similar story to yours. I studied art, loved it, and especially loved to do faces. I then stopped creating art to do other things in my life for twenty years. My beautiful mother passed away two years ago, and I started dabbling in art as a way to heal and deal with my intense grief. I came across your class last year, and have become much more focused and confident with artistic abilities. I am amazed at how much I have learned and grown with LFI 2016! I love your teaching style, the styles of other instructors, and I would love to continue the journey in 2017!

  15. Maribe Losada on September 9, 2016 at 3:03 PM

I would be thrilled to win a spot for Lets Face It 2017. I have not painted much since collage and am wanting to get back to it and your work has inspired me to do just that. The line up of teacher s that are involved is fantastic and the focus projects are just what I need to learn.
    Thanks for the chance!

  17. Allison Slice on September 9, 2016 at 3:12 PM

I am so thrilled to be a part of the 2016 group and I am so excited for the 2017 class! This is such a wonderful group of students and teachers! Everyone is so supportive and I have always felt so supported despite feeling like such a novice. I can see growth in my work and look forward to seeing what 2017 will bring for my creative life! So happy I have found myself again in art!!❤️

  18. Teri Buczkowski on September 9, 2016 at 3:41 PM

I’ve loved Let’s Face It 2016 so much – the best way to spend birthday money on myself, ever! I treated myself to a whole year of growth, learning and arty pleasure! I have developed more than I could have imagined. Thank you.
I will sign up anyway (I deserve it!) but I’d love to win a spot. I’d then be able to justify some more materials!

LFI 2016 was amazing and not only the lessons but the new found friendships also. I want to do 2017 because I really really really need help with faces and bodies. And because the line-up of teachers is beyond all expectations of awesomeness. I would love an opportunity to continue down the path of artsy learning.

  22. soappen on September 9, 2016 at 4:06 PM

I would love to join this year long course. I have been drawing faces for a short while. It was one of my most challenging subjects. I, of course, have found that practice makes perfect! So, winning a space would help me a lot!

  23. Catherine Randall on September 9, 2016 at 4:14 PM

I loved LFI 2016 so much I must do it again!! Before I began the 2016 session, I was completely uncomfortable drawing and painting faces. Guess what?! No more!! I find myself doing faces all the time now, no fear! I would love the expand on this new found joy, and so I will definitely be attending the 2017 session!! Thank you Kara and to all the teachers for sharing your valuable knowledge and information, let me tell ya, it’s priceless!

  24. Lael Sheber on September 9, 2016 at 4:17 PM

I would love to win a spot in LFI 2017! I found your 2016 course while taking LifeBook and am loving it! Art found me through a debilitating illness and has been a light guiding me through my journey. I am eager to learn more and I’m blown away by the generosity and inspiration of the teachers. Thank you!

  25. puffinliz on September 9, 2016 at 4:26 PM

Next year will be a new beginning for me, big life changes ahead. To be in this class amongst all the creative people, getting encouragement and learning new techniques would be glorious! I’ve seen the results of several of the instructors’ creativity and it would be thrilling to learn their processes!

  26. Stephanie Houser on September 9, 2016 at 4:56 PM

I would love to win a spot in the new let’s face it. I thought about signing up for the last one, but my fear of it kept me from doing it. I love making art but I am often hesitant to do it. This might be the push I need.

  27. Catherine on September 9, 2016 at 5:10 PM

WHAT!!! Why would I not want a spot!!! I have taken LFI 2016 and it has changed my life as an artist!!! I would be so grateful and honored if I were chosen for a free spot. Of course it would be a great financial help. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win. I also share your post for LFI 2017 with much enthusiasm!!!

  28. Tanya on September 9, 2016 at 5:17 PM

Hi Kara I would love to win a free place in let’s face it 2017 . I have learnt so much from let’s face it 2016 and all the other solo classes I have signed up for from your amazing list of teachers. I am truely addicted to these incredibly informative classes and love how your teachers share ALL their tips and tricks. I am afraid my husband may take away my art supplies if I don’t stop signing up for classes so a free one amongst my others may help me justify! Hehe xx

  29. Jamie Pitts on September 9, 2016 at 5:23 PM

To Kara and all of the teachers from Let’s Face it 2016 I want to say thank you for all of your teaching and words of encouragement as we shared our work. It was challenging to do in the beginning, but it gets easier because this is such a loving and supportive community to share and learn art. Kara, I have struggled with work this year, so winning a spot in next years programs would help out so much. I absolutely love being part of this amazing journey!!

  30. Mika Power on September 9, 2016 at 5:28 PM

Oh wow wow!! Exciting to do this again! Why would I like to win a spot? Well who doesn’t want to win something?!?! I would love to win, you know how it is, money is tight for everybody right? I think all you teachers are fantastic and I’d love to learn for another year on this platform. Thank you for the chane! 🙂

  31. sacredyoli on September 9, 2016 at 5:33 PM

Hello, my name is Yoli and I am online art class junky! All kidding aside, I have taken a multitude of online courses and I have to say, this has been the most valuable class I have taken. Most courses I have taken, I would say, only 20-30% of the classes have spoken to me, and/or I completed. This course, I can confidently say, continually offered classes that really stepped up my art game. I have learned so much, and I, as well as my peers, have really seen the growth in my art. I also appreciate the download options, and the fact that you offer lifetime access. Thank you for all your generosity and hard work in putting this course together.
I look forward to next year’s course.
    Salute, and Vic’s la arte!
    Yoli of Sacred Yoli Designs.

I want to win!!!! I would love to have a spot in this class!!!

  34. Bobbi Gordon Teske on September 9, 2016 at 6:23 PM

I am woefully sorry that I did not take the 2016 class however I feel that I am now ready to make the commitment to myself to make my feet hit the pavement! I have collected every source of medium as well as canvas without putting pen/brush in my hand! I need to be shoved off of the ledge! This class would be so vital to me! Thank you for your consideration!

  35. Kim on September 9, 2016 at 6:28 PM

Hi Kara! Thank you so much for the opportunity to win a spot in LFI 2017. I have been following you and many of your teachers on various social media sites for awhile now, and I love what you do. I am fairly new to the mixed media world, and I feel that you could help me take my artistic skills to the next level. I love doing portraits and paintings of pretty ladies, but I have a tendency to overwork my art. I know that you could teach me to edit myself as well as teach me tips and technique that I don’t know. I would so love a chance to take your class! Thanks again for the opportunity.

  36. cathym30 on September 9, 2016 at 6:43 PM

Posted the info on my FB page. Am certainly enjoying and learning a lot in LFI 2016. Would love to continue the journey into 2017. Let’s Face It 2016 was great, it helped me to actually pick up the paint brush and “try this thing”, and some of the projects turned out ok. It’s lit a fire to improve and I know Lets Face It 2017 will help me continue to do that. I would like to win and keep learning and growing in my art.

    Greetings from Germany, Sabine

  46. Heather on September 9, 2016 at 10:35 PM

So, so excited for LFI 2017! I am taking the 2016 course, and I adore learning faces from different artists with such different styles. I feel like it’s helping me develop a true style of my own. And THAT is exciting (as I’ve always kind of worried it would never happen). 2017 will push me and inspire me even more. I would LOVE to win a spot!

I’m truly excited about this year long workshop and to have a chance to win a place is the icing on the cake! It’s full to the brim of all the artist friends I admire and aspire to. It also begins on my birthday 2nd January so I can embrace being 60 in the best way possible!

  49. Siya on September 9, 2016 at 11:06 PM

when I was young I did not believe I had it in me. Art was for the talented. And the believe stayed in place for a long time. Until a couple of years ago I discoverde the online courses. I took a course and was surprised by the results.
A big hug for all of you creating thes programs and helping people reconnect with their dreams, for bringing Art to everyone ? I would love to learn more, to stretch my boundaries and to simply enjoy new ways of creating. Thanks for the opportunity!

  59. Kim on September 10, 2016 at 5:04 AM

I loved LFI 2016 and would be overjoyed to have another go at it!

  60. April on September 10, 2016 at 5:29 AM

This looks awesome! Hoping to win!

  61. Lydia Eloff on September 10, 2016 at 5:59 AM

I would love to win a spot in this course! I will probably sign up in any event. I am working on developing my own style of face for a series I have in mind. Thanks for this opportunity!

  62. Fay Goode on September 10, 2016 at 6:04 AM

I would be thrilled to win a spot, if not I will still be there for my 1st Let’s Face it!

  63. Chantal Scheffel on September 10, 2016 at 6:19 AM

I would love to win a spot, i want to do al courses, but I have to pick one this year, so by winning I can face it again…..

  64. reachingthedeepwithing on September 10, 2016 at 6:21 AM

I want to win a spot on let’s face it 2017 as I love 2016 so far and I have learnt so much but have so much more to learn. I love art and want to be much better at it, I have loved all the lessons I’ve completed so far and all the teachers are amazing.

  65. Julie Schofield on September 10, 2016 at 6:21 AM

I enrolled in LFI 2016 and what a pleasant experience it has been for me! The instruction has been phenomenal, as well as the community of artists I have come to know as friends. The tips and tricks I’ve learned over the past few months have helped me on my journey, not only in my skill level, but in the way I see myself as an artist. I allow myself to make mistakes as I learn and have the freedom and courage to try new things, share them with other people in our tribe and feel their support. I would absolutely love to continue my growth as an artist and hope to receive a spot in the 2017 course.
    Thanks,
    Julie Schofield

  66. Kryste on September 10, 2016 at 6:24 AM

This would be a wonderful opportunity to learn from an outstanding group of artists. Faces (and hands!) are a huge source of frustration , I would be appreciative to gain insight and knowledge from this class. Thank you for chance.

  67. Jo on September 10, 2016 at 6:27 AM

I would love to win a spot in this class because with 4 kids and a hubby who has just lost his job it’s hard to make ends meet. Art and painting takes my mind off of my worries and anxiety and helps me focus on positive things.I’d love to be able to practice all kinds of portraits taught in this class by the wonderful artists involved.

  68. Rita Hatcher on September 10, 2016 at 7:14 AM

I would love to win a spot on this course! So many talented artist’s. I am so facinated by the face. As you draw and paint the face it takes you on a journey of discovery. And you end up with a new member of your family. Thank you for all the inspiration and the opportunity to win.

  69. Gayle Gartin on September 10, 2016 at 7:36 AM

I have always had an inspiration to paint faces, but never knew where to begin. I would love to take this year long class, and learn from so many great artists who love their gifts in creating faces. Thank you

  70. Dori hamill on September 10, 2016 at 7:46 AM

Kara, I just can’t say enough about this years LFI classes. You have gathered such an amazing group of talented artists from around the world to share their talents! This class has really opened up a whole new world in my art. Faces were never something I attempted, but now I can’t wait to start each lesson. I feel like I’ve made such progress and I look forward to finishing up this years’s lessons. I live in the mountains in a small community where the only art classes are the ones I volunteer to teach. This class has brought these teachers all to me in my corner of the world. Great job Kara! And thank you. I would love to continue on this journey with you next year.

  71. Tori on September 10, 2016 at 7:53 AM

2016 was amazing. I would love to continue on by winning a spot in 2017

  72. chelsea reede on September 10, 2016 at 8:19 AM

I don’t know how I would be as a student, but I want to learn from so many amazing artists!

  73. Ann-Marie on September 10, 2016 at 8:23 AM

I can’t seem to stop sketching portraits but tend to hesitate to delve into non drawing options…I think being challenged and having community are key to growth..spending time with your tribe doing what you love is why I want to take the class

  74. Marielle van 't Wout on September 10, 2016 at 9:27 AM

I would loooooove a spot in this class with this fantastic line up!! 2016 was an amazing journey. I think 2017 will be even more amazing! ?

  75. Laurel Kettlestrings on September 10, 2016 at 10:29 AM

I would love to win a spot to this course! I have been drawn to, but avoiding, creating portraiture because of FEAR of not being good enough – of “failing”. (I have a nasty inner perfectionist). But I’ve been trying to shed fear whenever/wherever I can in my life – to live out loud.

  76. Stacy Garvin on September 10, 2016 at 10:41 AM

I would love to win a spot on Let’s Face It 2017 and continue this journey that I started in 2016. My life has changed from these classes. I have now changed our dinning room into an art studio. My family is in support of me and I feel really alive for the first time in a long time, since our son passed away in 2007. I had always sketched but had not tried painting or any of these other medias. No one has been more surprised then me that I have been able to do these projects. I have learned so much and now see many colors and techniques in other works that I have never seen before. Thanks for doing this! It’s been fun and given me hope.

  77. Jenn Sher on September 10, 2016 at 11:10 AM

  78. Gina Sismilich on September 10, 2016 at 11:13 AM

I love portraiture – both somewhat realistic and abstract. This course would give me the ability to go at my own pace and would definitely motivate me to keep at it. My website’s in progress so not listed below

I sure would love to win a spot in Lets Face It 2017 class… Love be in this class this but not so sure I can afford it next year? Good luck everyone !

  81. Lynnita Knoch on September 10, 2016 at 11:30 AM

I’m enjoying Let’s Face It 2016, although I am behind due to health issues. I would love to win a spot for Let’s Face It 2017, as I want to continue learning more aspects of painting/drawing and portraits and story art. Also, I’ve lost my income recently and will probably not be able to afford the class if I don’t win a spot or a scholarship. Thank you for considering me! Hugs!!

  82. serraapowen on September 10, 2016 at 11:53 AM

I need more experience and training in painting faces. It’s just such a challenge for me so far. I really enjoy art-work. I have taken LifeBook by Tam from 2012-2016, and many of these people I’ve not heard of, but would love to learn from. I plan to take LB 2017, as well. (If I have the $$.) This opportunity would open up my art experience so much, I would be most appreciate it if I did win a space. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply for a free space. Thanks!

  83. Jackie Barragan on September 10, 2016 at 12:09 PM

I’m eager to expand my art knowledge, which is very basic and mostly self-taught. Winning a spot would be such a great treat, with such a wide variety of different style artists and amazing talent. Sharing now! Xoxo

  84. Yvonne on September 10, 2016 at 12:29 PM

What generous to give away three places! My heart jumps at the thought of the possibility of joining you!

  85. fascinated1 on September 10, 2016 at 12:54 PM

Let’s Face It 2016 has been the best artistic learning experience I’ve ever had! It has surpassed every local painting workshop I’ve attended in attempts to introduce myself to the art of painting. Because of its community of teachers it’s afforded an amazing diversity of talent and painting techniques. Thus, enabling a student the discovery of methods far beyond ones imagination, and, seriously picking up a paint brush for the first time … I am grateful.
My understanding of Let’s Face It 2017 has students not only recapturing wonderful highlights of 2016, but delving deeper in to a realm of new and exciting ideas on portraiture! Like a continuing educational class in painting … oh but so much more enjoyable and fun! I’m so excited to hear about this class and look forward to ‘being in class’ with each and every amazing teacher paying close attention to learning how to express myself through the art of painting!

    • fascinated1 on September 10, 2016 at 1:01 PM

I’m not sure why my post doesn’t have my name and shows as ‘fascinated1’ … I do want to let you know I’m Joy Lamberti. If there’s someone who can help me correct this ‘name thing’ it is very much appreciated … Thank you.

  86. Sanna(Susan) Burgess on September 10, 2016 at 3:15 PM

I would love to win a spot since am in love with making. Can do pretty good faces already but would always benefit from the knowledge of others. I love trying new techniques to better my abilities and also so that I can teach what I learn from anywhere including here to the African children next time in Uganda! One reason winning a class would be a blessing is because we have spent our extra money this year for the betterment of others so don’t have much left for ourselves at the moment. We are not poor just have to pay the bills. I would be thrilled to win. Thanks for the chance, Sanna

  87. Becca Kilpatrick on September 10, 2016 at 6:28 PM

I am slowly learning mix media. Would love to learn how to draw faces. Would be so much fun. Thank you for considering me.

  88. Sara Villicaña on September 10, 2016 at 9:37 PM

I love portraiture and I have learned a lot in Let’s Face It 2016. I do not want to stop learning but I am not sure I could make it next year. Currency exchange is not favorable for us in our country. Anyway, I highly recommend Kara Bullock as a teacher and coordinator of all this riot. Lots of fun, lots of learning, lots of sharing. Thank you.

  89. Gina B. on September 10, 2016 at 9:51 PM

I would love to win a spot that is certain, this class has been the best money I have ever spent on art classes, live or internet. I have learned so much! I am grateful! I just hope that whomever could most use winning one of these spots, does indeed win. That would be win win! I love to see blessings happen to those most in need! I shared on facebook!!

I would love to win a spot as I hav had a very bad year financially and personally and the improvement I can see in my portraits since beginning this year’s LFI REALLY makes me SO happy. You really have put together a course that I never ever want to be without – even if it means eating potatoes for a month! Here’s hoping I am one of the 3 lucky winners. Good luck to everyone else.
