Would You Like to Explore Creating Abstract Figure Paintings?  Are you Ready to Learn How to Take a Sketch to a Well-Composed Figure Painting?

Join Kasey Moran in her first, online figures course!  In The Painted Figure, you  you will have many opportunities to explore creating quick figure sketches, and discovering new ways to use these sketches to guide you in designing and completing painted compositions!  Discover the idea behind notans and how these can also become studies of future completed paintings.  Experiment with a limited palette as you create two completed paintings from your sketches and notans.  Kasey always loved emotive lines in a drawing and is always asking how she can keep that feeling but do it in paint.  Watch as Kasey does just that in this class!  Join now!

DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS

This class consists of four main lessons!  In the first lesson, you will watch as I create quick figure sketches from photos.  This is an essential piece of my process.  Not only are these sketches great practice, but they also help me as I design my painting compositions.  Next, we will move into painting notans of our reference photos.  Notan is a Japanese term which literally means "light dark harmony".   I use "notan" studies to help me to explore different arrangements of light and dark elements in my paintings.  At this point, I am not yet thinking about color, texture and finer details.  I recommend doing several of these to find designs or compositions that really stand out to you.

Our final lessons will focus on creating complete paintings from start to finish.  We will begin by painting one of our notans on a larger substrate.  From there we will move into completing the painting using a limited color palette.  Next, we will use one of our gesture drawings to inform a completed painting. I have always loved emotive lines in a drawing and I’m always asking myself how I can keep that feeling but do it in paint.  So, in the final lesson, I share more process on video for taking a sketch and creating a completed design from it.

The class was great! It has opened a new door of exploration for future work and this is exactly what I was looking for. I discovered that notan technique is very interesting on its own and a great jumping start for more rich and colorful paintings. Kasey is a great instructor and an amazing artist.
