DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS

This is Emma's fourth offering to our artist communiyt, and as always it is full of a generous amount of lessons and inspiration to add to your repertoire of art tools!  In the first lesson, you will begin with short warm ups of quick 3 min gestural sketches to help you move away from expectations and tightness in your figure drawing.  Then we will move on to lesson 2 where we will explore strong and dynamic composition in your figurative work.  I will guide you in learning to see the figure as a collection of shapes and angles.

Lesson 3 will get you prepared for the final two painting lessons.  In the third lesson, you will learn to create two colourful and patterned unconventional underpaintings. You will also explore the fluidity of paint trying not to control it. This lesson is about opening your mind to how the paint wants to move and react.  Lesson 4 is all about possibilities.  I will show you how my use of perspective and proportion makes for an unconventional, yet striking approach to figurative poses.   Finally, in the final lesson we will use two different reference images as inspiration and pair them in one painting. By using these images as a starting point we can abstract the figures to create a captivating final piece of work.  This final painting was a lot of fun to create and I am excited to share this with you, along with the entire class!

MEET EMMA PETITT - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR

EmmaNewHeadshotwithDogSquare

I create large, colourful expressive Portraits and figurative work. My ladies always have a sense of fun and connection. I love to play with distortion and reality, just a little bit! I love to include hands into my portrait work because they add so much more expression and narrative.

I came to painting late in my life and have really only painting portraits and people for the last 5 years. This decision coincided with the life changing decision to move from the UK to Sunny Spain. Here, I was so inspired by the light and freedom that I truly became the Artist I always wanted to be.

PRIVATE GROUP JUST FOR YOU!

This course will have a private Facebook group just for you!  The artist will be actively involved with the class via Facebook the first four weeks the course is open!  After that the course will be a self-study.  The artist may or may not be involved after the four weeks.  We are looking forward to seeing your artwork!

Thank you Emma for a light hearted fun filled demo. I thoroughly enjoyed it, there really are no mistakes just plenty of possibilities! This course is for everyone even the well seasoned artist. Promise if you’re feeling stuck this will get you motivated!

  2. Toni (verified owner)

This is a wonderful class. I was able to follow along while doing my style of painting. Excellent instructor.

  3. Cindy Broadhead (verified owner)

Absolutely love Emma. In previous lessons, she used basically the same paints. The addition of more high flow paints and spray paints is expensive for me.

  4. Dinah Robinson (verified owner)

This class was GREAT. I cannot draw but I was able to do all the lessons. I also signed up for the other class you have on the site In The Shallow End..
