DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS

Our first three lessons will focus on creating loose floral prints.  I will begin with a sketch of my own for this lesson, and you can use my sketch, or create your own!  Flowers are a favorite for me. You may use your own sketch or use mine.

In lesson 2, we will be looking at working a print from front to back of the image. Front meaning foreground, back meaning background. This lesson is to get you aware of space and the layering process. What is also helpful is seeing and using negative space. This will apply in all lessons.

Our final floral lesson will be a Matisse Inspired Monotype. We will be covering the Gelli plate or plexi with paint and drawing into it quickly. I suggest having a simple image handy before adding paint to the plate.  I very much enjoyed this lesson because of the spontaneity of drawing quickly.  I will share ways to go back in while your paint is wet to create a new design!  We will learn that the so-called "mess ups" are really what helps us to see what we need to work on!

Lessons 4 and 5 will be about creating painterly, figure prints.  In both lessons, I will be using the same figure image to print from. My image was created prior to this course and you are welcome to use my figure imageor you can create one of your own. The point of all this is to have fun with the possibilities of printing. Use the image underneath as a guide, a jumping off point….. You have one image. How can you make them all different? Can you step outside your comfort zone and use a different color than what you would typically choose? What if paint is applied heavier or lighter in some places? How does layering affect the overall feel of each print? What if your layers are minimal? What if your palette is minimal? What would you like to see underneath or on top of an image? These are some questions I think about when I work with printing and you will get to watch me create several prints, in different ways, in these tutorials.
