Description
Are You Struggling to find Your Own Unique Style? Does Your Art Truly Reflect Your Creative Voice?
Join Patrick Greenwell (aka Patrick Spirit) in his new course, The Inner Muse. In this course, Patrick will share his process and his thoughts on art making as he creates two portraits in two different mediums. We will explore ways to allow our materials and techniques to guide us through an artwork. We will work on intuitive ways to gain a greater understanding of our own art and, in the process, help us start on the path of uncovering our own unique inner muse. I am excited to spend this time with you! I will see you in class!

COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course students will have an understanding of the following concepts:
- Develop a more intuitive approach to your artwork
- Be more aware of what excites you in the process of creating
- Allow your materials to work for you
- Mapping the features of the face
- Moving beyond a reference photo
- Finding an emotional connection to your work
CLASS IS OPEN - SELF-STUDY
Lifetime Access - Download All Content
Cost - $79
DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS
We will start with simply drawing pairs of eyes. This is your warm up for the portraits that will follow. The emphasis will be on becoming aware of when you first make a connection to your work and using that moment as a guide of how to proceed. Next, using a reference photo, we will discuss mapping the features of the face using the one eye measurement method. Following that, is a discussion of going beyond the reference photo and exploring what that means for your work and how this ties to your inner muse.

We will bring these lessons all together as we will develop a portrait in graphite using the reference photo as a guide, while maintaining the freedom to explore where our drawing may take us. In our final lesson, we will do a mixed media portrait using acrylics and charcoal. Again, we will be exploring going beyond our reference to a place guided by our own sensibilities and our inner muse.

MEET PATRICK GREENWELL - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR

Patrick’s artistic journey has been long and varied. Drawing and painting have always been his mainstay, but for a while, he was a wedding and portrait photographer. That was back when film and darkrooms were the norm. Although he doesn’t pick up a camera as often these days, creating images is still the language that helps him best understand his life. Holding true to his history in portraiture, his work in various media is comprised mostly of faces.
Almost a decade ago, he left the city of Denver for the wilds of New Mexico, where he says the desert informs and often confuses him. But it is through this dichotomy that much of his recent work has surfaced.
His ongoing project Morning Sketches has lasted several years. The project is simply a pencil sketch of a face (some say the same face) posted nearly every morning on Instagram. It came about one morning as he was trying to decipher a dream from the night before. His lifelong habit of journaling just didn’t suffice. In 2018 he self published an ebook called Morning Sketches: Drawings, Thoughts, Time. It loosely chronicles the journey of the project and is available for free from his website.
Patrick lives and works in the desert outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife, Nichole and their canine friend, Maggie.

What a great lesson! I know I have to learn a lot once more, but I was astonished about myself. I know I have a inner muse now, I have to live it intense. Thank you so much Patrick. Your art to teach is great for the soul and for the brain. Big hug! Regina
