In this two-day workshop, Melinda will demonstrate numerous techniques using this exciting medium that is rapidly gaining popularity with oil painters. In addition to speeding up drying time, Cold Wax brings an element of the unexpected to the painting process which is ideal for artists yearning to work more abstractly and intuitively. Known for her abstract figurative work, Melinda will include some focus on the figure, however all subject matter is welcome in this class. Students will leave with many new techniques and concepts to explore in their own work.
Students who participate in both the “Stay in the Play” workshop and the Cold Wax workshop, will be able to further develop their paintings as well as learn new techniques.
***This course is for oil painters. Students should have a working knowledge of oil paint. Cold Wax and Solvent will be provided. A $20 material fee will be collected at the workshop.

MEET MELINDA COOTSONA
Melinda Cootsona is a figurative painter in Northern California. Greatly influenced by the Bay Area artistic tradition, her paintings focus on the strength of the female figure. The paintings are created with layers of oil paint, applied and then scraped away revealing figures that fill the canvas in varying poses of contemplation or reflection in abstracted surroundings. Whether in a soft or harsh surrounding, the strength of the female figure is primary.
Melinda has been included in exhibitions at the Bakersfield Museum of Art and the Triton Museum in California, The San Francisco Art Market, The Coos Bay Museum of Art in Oregon, and Art Basel Miami, as well as many group and solo shows throughout the U.S.
Cootsona received her BA from the California College of the Arts. Her work can be found in collections in the United States, Europe, Australia, and China.
Class will be live via ZOOM from Angus' personal studio.
