Description
Are You Ready to Loosen Up While Still Creating Work That Feels Intentional?
Join Kim Santini in Bloom - Expand Possibilities, a course that explores the powerful combination of fox imagery and floral elements through expressive, intuitive painting. Students will create two paintings—one focused on facial expression with a shallow depth of field, and another featuring more of the fox’s body amidst lyrical, sky-like passages. Using Kim’s signature process of creation, destruction, and rebuilding, artists will learn to move fluidly between realism and abstraction.
The course emphasizes intuitive decision-making, gestural mark-making, and discovering personal style. Lessons include tutorials on painting eyes, mixing nuanced color, and designing with value in mind. Students will also explore digital drawing tools to solve design challenges and develop stronger compositions. Kim shares her two foundational practices—building takeaways and developing heightened awareness—which help deepen creativity and elevate artistic growth.

DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS
This course invites you into Kim Santini’s intuitive painting process—a playful, layered approach that blends personal instinct with bold design. We begin by exploring what it means to paint intuitively, using “What if” questions and personal “Must haves” to guide creative decisions from the start.
In the early lessons, you’ll get to know the visual language of foxes and florals through drawing and observation, studying shapes, colors, and patterns. This helps loosen your hand and begin connecting the subjects in expressive, energetic ways.
The first major piece, Portrait in Bloom, centers on building an emotionally rich portrait that fuses fox and floral elements. You’ll explore gestural painting, with a special focus on eyes and features that feel alive. As the piece evolves, you’ll refine your focal point, push contrast and composition, and play with abstraction while still maintaining balance and clarity.
Once the portrait is complete, you’ll step back and assess your work—learning how to simplify forms, recognize overworking, and trust your own perspective to know when a painting is finished.
The second major work, Sky Fox, starts with a luminous sky as your underpainting. You’ll invite in fox and floral shapes in a loose, gestural way, allowing atmosphere and ambiguity to lead. This phase encourages imaginative choices, spatial invention, and the use of digital tools to support design.
In the final lesson, you’ll evaluate your design structure with a more analytical eye, strengthening the relationship between supporting areas and focal points. You’ll explore how value, pattern, and shape relationships bring your painting to life—while letting go of the original reference and allowing your narrative to emerge naturally.

MEET KIM SANTINI - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR
Kimberly Kelly Santini is a small town girl from the thumb of Michigan. She spent her childhood wandering the neighboring woods and farmland until suppertime, filling her head and sketchbook with the things she experienced.
She has a BFA in Painting and a BA in Art History from Michigan State University. She completed half of an MFA at California State, Los Angeles before leaving the program for health reasons. She has run her studio business since 2000.
Kimberly established a daily painting practice in 2006 (PaintingADogADay.com). For well over a decade she delivered 3-5 small commissioned portraits weekly while managing a waitlist over a year long. Her art is collected worldwide and has been exhibited to great success. She has worked with the American Kennel Club and was honored as the official artist of the 2015 Kentucky Derby. She continues to paint and teach from her home studio, along with community involvement and volunteerism. She is the parent of three adult children who grew up as integral parts of the studio (and were featured regularly in her PaingingaDogsDay blog sharing painting and life snippets).
Kimberly is a lifelong learner, always actively seeking experiences to guide her in raising the bar. She has studied with many artists over the years, but learned significantly from Vianna Szabo, Alyssa Monks, Anne Siems, Stuart Shils, Lynn Whipple, Stanka Kordic and Zoey Frank. She prefers books over TV or movies, loves long walks with the dogs and has become obsessed with gardening (roses and dahlias in particular).
She runs a membership program where students learn to align their lives and artwork in uniquely satisfying way. Nothing gives her joy like students encountering ah-ha moments as they piece things together for themselves. She cannot wait to experience that with you!

This is one of the best workshops that I have ever taken. I have been a fine art instructor for over 30 years and have taken many…..many workshops myself. I personally feel that we never stop growing as an artist and need to continually push ourselves out of our comfort zone and Kimberly did this for me. I appreciated how well she was able to articulate her thinking process and how she shared her struggles throughout the passages and how she worked through those issues. Also the layout of the lesson plan and the filming were just so professional and well done. If I could give this course a 10 star rating I would. I will be back to take more courses without a doubt…..but for now I’m excited to get to my easel and apply the lessons that Kimberly shared and get my brushes wet!
Thank you so much Kimberly

Kim is an excellent teacher! I’m not all the way through the course yet and I have already learned a lot of new techniques and ideas for my own work. Kim is very methodical and thorough in her explanations and encourages us to paint from our own heart. “Bloom” has exceeded my expectations already!

It can be disheartening when you take a class and your let down with the lack of content. This is NOT one of those! In Bloom, Kimberly shows it all and along the way she drops great tips. I love when you can watch a great artist work out their process, sharing what they like or don’t and how they go about fixing it. I learned so much and feel more confident in working more intuitively thanks to this course! Thank you Kimberly Santini!

I discovered the course too late to have the boards or isolation medium on hand for live participation. I was intrigued by the drawing & combining strategy and have found it extremely effective! (I am using glassine paper.) I have watched most of the videos. Kimberly is very good at explaining what is happening with her hands, mind and materials. My boards & medium arrived today! So, I will start the video series, again, at the beginning and look forward to completing the pieces.

If you want help taking your art to the next level this course is full of juicy content. I have taken a few online classes and Kim does not disappoint. I was looking for help changing up my palette, that was accomplished. Kim gives you the tools to expand your creative mindset. I can’t say enough positive things about this class. It’s changed the way I think and create. My friends and family that critique my art have nothing but positive comments. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Kim.

This was the second Kim Santini video I’ve purchased. I am so impressed with both of them. Kim is an excellent teacher, she explains why and how she does things. She also explains her thinking process., so helpful! The videos are very high quality and Kim is comfortable and easy to understand. I would give 10 stars if I could. Worth the time and money invested.

Excellent class! Thank you so much for allowing us to download the videos. I appreciate that very much. It was great learning Kim’s thought processes for the paintings…for me, that was the main takeaway. i paint in oils so the techniques don’t always translate completely, but I CAN translate the thought process. Kim’s an excellent artist and instructor, and I look forward to seeing her future offerings.

Bloom – Expand Possibilities is an excellent course. Kim Santini is a wonderfully generous teacher who is very responsive to her students and provides valuable feedback. She is very creative in her approach and I learned so many things about techniques, colour, Procreate and more. Highly recommend!

This was my 2nd online class from Kim. I watched her paint bears over and over again. The same now with foxes. So grateful to have the classes forever. I have painted 5 dream bears of my own. They are different from Kim’s but I have adapted many techniques from her. I love the process: call and response throughout hours of joy. . This is how we learn and grow, watching a master handle materials and clearly explaining her decisions step by step. I especially love to watch each painting grow through dozens of what ifs and new directions. Can’t wait for new classes: birds, maybe? I’ll be there. In the meantime, will watch bears and foxes many more times. Thanks, Kim.

I really enjoyed your course. Thanks for sharing your talent and creativity with us.

I took this course to loosen up and free myself of the preciseness of copying realism. I love the layering effect giving the piece an airy mystical effect. Kim’s thought processes were very inspiring and gave me new ways to think about subject matter. The play aspect of drawing with a sharpy on deli paper was so much fun. This course is worth exploring if you want to change how you can think, draw, and play with ideas for a totally unique way to paint.

Expand possibilities is exactly right. If you are looking to see the possibilities in your own art, Kim gives great foundational and intuitive prompts to help you with your own process. I’m a beginner to acrylic and have come away with lots of information and tools. Highly recommend!

In content, structure, and delivery, Kim presents the thoughts and strategies behind her approach in a way that is relevant and inspiring, no matter what type of painter you are. As a degreed artist and professional graphic designer and art director, this was the most profoundly impactful painting class I have ever taken.
Carol Hopper (verified owner) –
I love your artwork. The videos were very professional. The reworking over and over again was tedious and took some joy out of painting.
Jennifer Serrano (verified owner) –
Another WOW WOW WOW class by Kimberly. Hearing and seeing her journeys through these paintings has been so helpful to my artwork. Kimberly is one of the most thoughtful artists I’ve taken a class from, and her words of wisdom are absolute jewels to remember within your own art. Thank you, Kimberly.

I have learned so much…my mind is swimming with tools, ideas, and concepts. Kim does an exceptional job teaching you and there are a lot of bonus tips along the way! I recommend this course highly and look forward to more from Kim Santini!
