LESSONS 1-2

Unforgettable
Modern interior of living room with door and dresser 3d rendering
Unforgettable room 4

In our very first lesson, we will begin by looking at a photo of a room for inspiration. I will share the things I look for to gather ideas when conceptualizing art for a space. We will then use the inspiration to paint a large 30x40” floral that will “fit” into our inspiration room.  This lesson is really going to teach you how to look at your personal space, and create a painting specifically for that room!  You will learn how to pick out accent colors to create something that is sure to make your guests say, "Wow!".  This will also be content that you can use in future lessons and artwork!

In the second lesson, we will paint in beautiful shades of blue. Incorporating some of the techniques from our warmup, we will use different sized brushes to create a loose abstract style florals on a tall narrow canvas. Learn to create values and interest while sticking to a limited palette.

Lesson 3, Light up the Night, is all about drama! We will paint a large 30x40” canvas, beginning by painting a base layer in beautiful deep dark shades of blue. Next, we will add greenery and use a fun unconventional tool to create gorgeous extra large blooms with lots of texture.

We will paint another 40x30” canvas in Lesson 4, Blossoming Together. This time we will turn it and paint a vertical composition. We will paint extra large flowers in layers using brushes and a large trowel to create dimension in the petals.

MEET NIKOL WIKMAN - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR

Nikol Wikman - Headshot

My name is Nikol Wikman I live in Victoria, BC Canada with my husband and two children. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. I loved art class in school and spent hours upon hours sketching. As I grew up I experimented with different creative avenues. I tried sewing, sculpting, took a stained glass course, beaded, made jewelry. Anything to feed the creative yearning in my soul. In my 20's I decided to try painting again (which I hadn't done since high school). I painted simple pieces for my apartment and loved it! It was so fun to grab a canvas, throw some paint on it and have my own unique piece of art! For a few years I painted here and there but nothing too serious. After my son was born I was struggling a little bit, lonely as a new mom. I decided to make a point of painting (almost) daily. It was one of the best decisions I ever made! In the studio(aka my dining room) I felt like I found myself again! I loved it so much I couldn't stop.

The process of playing with pure liquid colour does something to my heart that nothing else does. I never get bored of it. When I paint I feel joyful and free!

Eight years later I have painted hundreds(maybe even thousands!) of paintings. I have been able to connect and share my love of art with like minded souls from around the world. I've sent paintings to far off places I'll probably never get to visit myself! I feel so lucky and am grateful everyday for what art has brought into my life.

1 review for BIG, BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS

  1. Fran Cooper (verified owner)

Nikol removes painting anxiety and helps you create beautiful works with a free and easy style. She breaks down each piece step by step, even showing you how she mixes the colors, the size strokes to make and the drips to include or erase. Enjoyable. Using her tutorial, I finished 4 very large canvases in a few days…things that normally would have taken me months to complete.
