WOULD YOU LIKE TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL LARGE-SCALE PAINTINGS CREATED JUST FOR YOUR HOME, STUDIO OR OFFICE SPACE?

Painting gorgeous flowers to fit your décor is easier than you think! Tackling a large canvas may feel intimidating, but really, it is just more room to play!  In Big, Beautiful Blooms, Nikol Wikman will share her easygoing approach for creating big, beautiful florals, with acrylics on canvas.   Nikol begins the class with a wonderful warm up exercise, where you will learn a bit about how to choose a color palette.  She will share with you some of her favorite colours and tools to use when she creates her large, canvas art!  Watch as she experiments with mark making ideas, that will later be used on other paintings!  This course offers five more lessons.  Each one will be painted on a large canvas using the techniques we explored in the warmup.  By the end of the course you will have the knowledge and confidence to paint big, beautiful florals that will make a statement!

LESSONS 1-2

Unforgettable
Modern interior of living room with door and dresser 3d rendering
Unforgettable room 4

In our very first lesson, we will begin by looking at a photo of a room for inspiration. I will share the things I look for to gather ideas when conceptualizing art for a space. We will then use the inspiration to paint a large 30x40” floral that will “fit” into our inspiration room.  This lesson is really going to teach you how to look at your personal space, and create a painting specifically for that room!  You will learn how to pick out accent colors to create something that is sure to make your guests say, "Wow!".  This will also be content that you can use in future lessons and artwork!

In the second lesson, we will paint in beautiful shades of blue. Incorporating some of the techniques from our warmup, we will use different sized brushes to create a loose abstract style florals on a tall narrow canvas. Learn to create values and interest while sticking to a limited palette.

LESSONS 3-4

Lesson 3, Light up the Night, is all about drama! We will paint a large 30x40” canvas, beginning by painting a base layer in beautiful deep dark shades of blue. Next, we will add greenery and use a fun unconventional tool to create gorgeous extra large blooms with lots of texture.

We will paint another 40x30” canvas in Lesson 4, Blossoming Together. This time we will turn it and paint a vertical composition. We will paint extra large flowers in layers using brushes and a large trowel to create dimension in the petals.

MEET NIKOL WIKMAN - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR

Nikol Wikman - Headshot

My name is Nikol Wikman I live in Victoria, BC Canada with my husband and two children. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. I loved art class in school and spent hours upon hours sketching. As I grew up I experimented with different creative avenues. I tried sewing, sculpting, took a stained glass course, beaded, made jewelry. Anything to feed the creative yearning in my soul. In my 20's I decided to try painting again (which I hadn't done since high school). I painted simple pieces for my apartment and loved it! It was so fun to grab a canvas, throw some paint on it and have my own unique piece of art! For a few years I painted here and there but nothing too serious. After my son was born I was struggling a little bit, lonely as a new mom. I decided to make a point of painting (almost) daily. It was one of the best decisions I ever made! In the studio(aka my dining room) I felt like I found myself again! I loved it so much I couldn't stop.

The process of playing with pure liquid colour does something to my heart that nothing else does. I never get bored of it. When I paint I feel joyful and free!

Eight years later I have painted hundreds(maybe even thousands!) of paintings. I have been able to connect and share my love of art with like minded souls from around the world. I've sent paintings to far off places I'll probably never get to visit myself! I feel so lucky and am grateful everyday for what art has brought into my life.
