What could change if you gave your portrait art an entire year?

Maybe you are completely new to portraits and are not sure where to begin.

Maybe you love creating faces and figures but have started to feel stuck, uninspired, or unsure of what to create next.

Or perhaps you have been creating portraits for years and are ready to explore new techniques, try something different, and continue growing as an artist.

Wherever you are beginning, you want to keep growing and create portraits you love.

The truth is, there is no single “right” way to create a portrait.

Some artists work traditionally. Others work intuitively. Some create from life, others from photographs. Some work realistically, while others simplify, exaggerate, experiment, or break the rules completely.

The right way is the way that works for you.

And Let’s Face It was created to give you the opportunity to explore what that might be.

More Than a Collection of Art Lessons

This is a year of creative possibility!

Let’s Face It is a year-long online portrait and figure art experience designed to keep you learning, experimenting, and creating.

Throughout 2027, you will learn from 28 artists whose work represents a wonderful range of styles and artistic voices.

Each teacher will invite you into their process, explain the ideas behind their choices, and guide you through a complete portrait or figure lesson.

You will explore different materials, techniques, subjects, and ways of seeing. Some lessons will strengthen skills you already use. Others may lead you somewhere entirely unexpected.

Take the time to discover what excites you!

You will not simply create more art. You will discover more about the artist you are becoming.

Meet Kara Bullock.

Why I’m the Perfect Guide for Your Journey

I created Let’s Face It because portrait art changed my life—and because I understand how vulnerable it can feel to create a face and wonder whether you are doing it “right.”

When I began pursuing art seriously, I wanted more than instruction. I wanted a welcoming place to practice, experiment, and grow. That desire became Let’s Face It.

Since then, more than 20,000 artists worldwide have joined us—creating their first portraits, exploring new mediums, finding friendships, and developing their own artistic voices.

For 2027, I have brought together another extraordinary group of artists to offer you a full year of guidance, inspiration, and encouragement. We would love to have you join us.

“LET’S FACE IT has introduced me to dozens of artists, mediums, and techniques. It has allowed me to discover my own style and embrace it with confidence and joy.”
-Shirley

28 ARTISTS. 28 PERSPECTIVES.
SO MANY POSSIBILITIES.

One teacher can show you one way forward. Twenty-eight artists can open an entire world of possibilities. Our instructors come from very different creative backgrounds. Some have traditional art-school training and years of foundational study. Others are self-taught and have developed their own unique ways of working through years of creating and experimenting.

There isn’t one path to becoming an artist, and there isn’t one right way to create a portrait.

By learning from artists who approach portraiture differently, you have the opportunity to try new ideas, discover techniques you may never have considered, and begin recognizing what works for you.

You don’t need to create like any one of them.

Take what inspires you. Try what makes you curious. Leave what doesn’t resonate. Little by little, build a creative toolbox that becomes your own.

It’s Easy to Get Started!

In just 3 EASY steps:

  • Become a student in Let’s Face It 2027. Learn from artists with different styles, backgrounds, and ways of approaching portraiture. Explore new possibilities
  • Choose Your Lesson. Explore 50 portrait and figure lessons taught by 28 artists. Follow the lessons that speak to you and work at a pace that fits your life.
  • Discover What Works For You. Discover a process you want to explore. Find new direction in your work. Become a stronger, more confident portrait artist. Choose your own path.

50+ LESSONS. 50+ POSSIBILITIES.
Not 50+ Assignments.

Inside the 50 lessons, you will discover just how many possibilities exist within portrait and figure art.
Here are a few peeks into lessons you will experience.

SHADOWS WITH LULU

Create a dramatic portrait by exploring a subtractive process—building light, lifting away shadows, and adding expressive details to bring the face to life.

INTUITIVE LAYERS WITH KARA

Building a colorful portrait intuitively, allowing the portrait to evolve as you paint. Explore refining features, blending color, and adding bold features to add style.

SIMPLIFY WITH CHRISTA

Simplify a portrait into clear shapes of light, shadow, and midtone before gradually building layers of color. Strengthen contrast, adjust values, and use glazing techniques.

ABSTRACT FORM WITH KERSTIN

Explore the tension between structure and abstraction as parts of the face emerge, dissolve, and evolve through spontaneous marks and vibrant color in this lesson.

COLOR FLOW WITH LORRAINE

Create an expressive portrait with juicy washes and connected areas of warm and cool color. Learn to develop midtones, deeper values, and delicate details.

LAYERS AND LINES WITH KICKI

Discover Kicki’s process for creating richly layered figurative paintings using mixed media! This lesson will surely teach you a new techique, or two or three!

Let’s get something out of the way right now: you do not have to complete every lesson in Let’s Face It!

In fact, we don’t expect you to.

Throughout the year, you’ll receive approximately one new lesson each week from artists working in different styles, mediums, and approaches to portraiture.

Think of them as possibilities waiting for you.

Choose the lessons that intrigue you. Follow the artists who inspire you. Try something completely outside your comfort zone. Skip something that doesn’t interest you. Come back to it six months later if suddenly it does.

There isn’t one right way to create a portrait—and there isn’t one right way to experience Let’s Face It.

Work at your own pace. Follow your curiosity. Take what resonates and leave the rest.

This is your year of exploration.

“I have learned new skills, worked in new mediums, and have begun to develop my own style of painting. I have a busy schedule, so I can work at my own pace. I can really see how my work has improved over the past year.”
-Rona

NEW IN 2027 – 4E PORTRAIT SERIES

Four times throughout the year, Kara will invite you to join her live to take some of the ideas we’re exploring inside LFI and go a little deeper

We’ll move through four ideas—EXPLORE, EXPERIMENT, EXPRESS, and EVOLVE—with one live session each quarter. These aren’t additional lessons to check off your list. They’re opportunities to create together, try something different, and look at portraiture in new ways.

EXPLORE — Discover how many different directions one portrait can take as we play with choices like composition, color, edges, background, and more.
EXPERIMENT — Step outside your usual habits with creative limitations, unexpected prompts, and new ways of approaching a portrait.
EXPRESS — Go beyond likeness and explore how choices like setting, objects, atmosphere, composition, and what you choose to leave unsaid can give a portrait character, curiosity, and story.
EVOLVE — Bring your discoveries from the year together and explore how your approach to portraiture may be changing as you learn, try, and grow.

You don’t need to find your style. You don’t need to make a masterpiece. And you definitely don’t need to have it all figured out. This is an opportunity for further exploration

All four live sessions are included with your Let’s Face It 2027 registration.

Picture yourself at the end of 2027….

  • You are looking through a collection of portraits and figures you are genuinely proud to have created.
  • You feel more comfortable experimenting with unfamiliar materials and techniques.
  • You are making stronger artistic choices instead of questioning every step.
  • You are beginning to recognize what feels most like you.
  • And you have a worldwide community of artists who have encouraged you along the way.
You do not need to know exactly where your art is going before you begin.
  • You have a clearer sense of where you want your art to go next.

Real Artists. Real Growth.
Real Connection.
