Biography

When it comes to painting I am so crazy about painting faces, that I actually never do still life, or landscapes, or animals, or flowers, etc. And if I do any of those, I still stick a face in front of it all. To me face of human in itself tells a story. There is not a story without it. In short, no artwork of mine is complete without a face. And therefore, naturally, I am crazy happy to be part of this e-course. In fact, the first time I heard of it, I thought, OMG, I hope I will be invited, and if I am not – I will sign up, because it’s going to be about my favorite subject – the face! Thank you for having me here, eeeeei!

Although acrylics are my true love, close second comes collage, and then literally everything else you can paint with. I adore mixed-media, I can mix and mix and mix, possibilities there are endless, I even tried my hands on egg tempera and painting with spices, berries and leaves! Crafts are a huge passion of mine: doll making, sculpting, mocaics, pewter, book making and quilting… I love recycling, upcycling, creating with found objects, weird, whimsical and unconventional creations. I am crazy about vintage, I collect it, sort it, display it, re-purpose it, and yes – hoard it too… My studio in Hermanus is a display of beautiful and weird vintage stuff as much as it is a place to create in. I also love collaborating with my daughter since she was 1. She creates vibrant abstracts and teachers me fearless art.

Few more facts.  I am originally from Kazakhstan, my native language is Russian. I live near the sea, in South Africa for the past 16 years with my filmmaker husband, arty 3 year old toddler, 2 lazy dogs and 3 hunting cats. I have a degree as a school teacher, but work as a full time artist. I adore books, and Pinterest. My 1st online workshop was released in September 2015 and called “Creating Soulful Art With A Story”.
