I am thrilled to announce that Zin Lim, and amazing portrait and figurative artist, is coming to my studio in December!!  In this two-day workshop with Zin Lim, the style of drawing that will be introduced is a combination of tight and loose in a composition. Through this experience you will be learning principles of realism/impressionism/expressive portrait drawing and the techniques. Class structure consists of lecture, demonstrations, exercises, group/individual critiques and timely feedback.

 

THEMES TO BE COVERED

  • Line Characteristics: How to create and use interesting lines and strokes.
  • Yin/Yan and Edge Control.
  • 3-D Form and Planes.
  • Arial Perspective: How to create spatial depth.
  • Composition for Portrait: How to create best work with your current skill set.

 

BY THE END OF THIS COURSE STUDENTS WILL HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF:

  • how to organize your work progress by stages.
  • how to clearly express what you think and feel through your drawing.
  • how to create optic and haptic illusion for live-like head.
  • how to self-critique of your work, find solution and improve your work quality.

Event Schedule:

Saturday, Day 1:

  • 8:45 – Arrive
  • 9:00 – 3:00
  • Zin will provide lecture, demos, exercise, group/individual critique, and feedback.  There will be plenty of time for students to work on their own projects with Zin's guidance.
  • We will break for lunch.  There are many wonderful eateries within walking distance.  Many students order to go, and bring back and continue working in the studio.
  • 3:00 – End

 

Saturday, Day 2:

  • 8:45 – Arrive

  • Artists who have studied realism drawing for a while, now looking for something loose, intuitive  and spontaneous approach in drawing.
  • Artist who wants to improve painting skill through fundamental of visual elements and techniques of fluid charcoal technique.
  • Beginning artist who wants to start learning visual language as bilingual. (tight & loose)
  • Artist who have been working in loose style of drawing and want to complete competitive body of portfolio.

 

WHO IS THIS CLASS NOT FOR?

  • Artists who are currently focus on realistic rendering as the single goal.
  • Artists who want to study drawing based on anatomy and measuring.

  • You will fly into John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California
  • Hotels within ten minutes include:
  • Embassy Suites has a shuttle service that runs from 5am to 11pm.  Embassy Suites and Country Inn both offer complimentary breakfast.  Transportation is not included at Double Tree or Country Inn, but Uber and/or Lyft are affordable and used regularly.

Workshop Policies:

Due to limited class size, payment is non-refundable, but may transferable, keep reading. If you purchase a workshop and are unable to attend, AND if there is a wait list for the course, we will put you in contact with the first person on the wait list for the workshop. If that person agrees, he/she can pay you for your spot in the course. Once that transaction is completed, we will substitute that person for your spot in the course. If you are unable to attend the workshop, and the workshop has not sold out with a wait list, we will not be able to refund your purchase.

Cancellations:

If the event does not reach the minimum number of participants, workshop may be cancelled.

In the very rare event of an emergency or unavoidable natural disaster or act of God, the class may be cancelled. If this is to happen, all purchased workshops will be reimbursed to students in full.
