In Intuitive Landscapes, Nikol Wikman will share her easygoing approach for creating big, beautiful, abstract landscapes for your home, office, or any space you can think of. In this class, we will learn to relax and follow our instincts as we create large multi-layered abstract landscapes on canvas. Through 4 step by step lessons we will experiment with a variety of tools and techniques to create texture and interest. By the end of this course, you will have be addicted to creating your own, intuitive, giant abstracted landscapes! I can't wait to see you in class!
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course students will have an understanding of the following concepts:
- Create texture with acrylics
- Think outside the brush, using alternative tools
- Mix colours to create different values and moods
- Layer acrylics, knowing when to paint wet on wet and when to let the layers dry before moving on.
- Mindset – approach painting as a fun, creative journey without worrying about the outcome.

DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS
This course is comprised of five total lessons! In each lesson I will teach you new techniques to carry on into future lessons and artworks. We will begin with a warm up where we will explore many of the tools we have gathered for this course. This is a great time to loosen up and have fun. In our main lessons, students will complete several intuitive landscapes. Students will experiment with creating textured clouds and mountains, soft blended skies over hillsides, a beach scene with more texture and interest, and more. These lessons are infused with various techniques to teach the artist how to create beautiful artwork in a fearless state! Along with learning more about landscape painting, you will discover more about values, color mixing, composition and design. MEET NIKOL WIKMAN - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR
My name is Nikol Wikman I live in Victoria, BC Canada with my husband and two children. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. I loved art class in school and spent hours upon hours sketching. As I grew up I experimented with different creative avenues. I tried sewing, sculpting, took a stained glass course, beaded, made jewelry. Anything to feed the creative yearning in my soul. In my 20's I decided to try painting again (which I hadn't done since high school). I painted simple pieces for my apartment and loved it! It was so fun to grab a canvas, throw some paint on it and have my own unique piece of art! For a few years I painted here and there but nothing too serious. After my son was born I was struggling a little bit, lonely as a new mom. I decided to make a point of painting (almost) daily. It was one of the best decisions I ever made! In the studio(aka my dining room) I felt like I found myself again! I loved it so much I couldn't stop.
The process of playing with pure liquid colour does something to my heart that nothing else does. I never get bored of it. When I paint I feel joyful and free!
Eight years later I have painted hundreds(maybe even thousands!) of paintings. I have been able to connect and share my love of art with like minded souls from around the world. I've sent paintings to far off places I'll probably never get to visit myself! I feel so lucky and am grateful everyday for what art has brought into my life.
PRIVATE GROUP JUST FOR YOU!
This course will have a private Facebook group just for you! The artist will be actively involved with the class via Facebook the first four weeks the course is open! After that the course will be a self-study. The artist may or may not be involved after the four weeks. We are looking forward to seeing your artwork!

Below is a list of the supplies that I will be using for the projects in this course. However, you are always encouraged to use what you have on hand.

- 2 x 36x48” stretched canvas
- 1 x 30x40” stretched canvas
- 1 x 36x72” stretched canvas
Acrylic paints
- Yellow Ochre – Fluid acrylic
- Payne’s Gray – Fluid Acrylic
- Raw Umber – Fluid Acrylic
- Napthol Red - Golden Heavy Body
- Quinacridone Red – Golden Heavy Body
- Hansa Yellow - Golden Heavy Body
- Prussian Blue - Golden Heavy Body
- Phthalo Green (blue shade) – Golden Heavy Body
- Iridescent Bright Gold – Golden Heavy Body
- Titanium White - Heavy Body
- Titan Buff - Amsterdam Series
A variety of tools, I use:
- Trowel
- Foam roller
- Catalyst wedge
- Rubber spatula
- Rubber Squeegee
- Filbert brushes (I use size 4, 14 and 16)
- Small bristle brush
- Large Round Brush (Size 50)
- 5” “house painting” brush
- Spray bottle filled with water
- Paper towel or shop towel
Other:
- White Gesso
- Lyra Graphite Crayon, charcoal or pencil will also work!
- Spray Fixative – I use Spectrafix

At first, I was a little intimidated to take the class, but Nikol is an excellent instructor. She is fun and enthusiastic about teaching the process. She encourages you to try different techniques and to not be attached to anything on the canvas. And if you don’t like what you painted, she happily suggests coming back next day with fresh eyes and to try something different. The first painting took me forever to complete, and it changed many many times. The next two project were a little easier or I was less attached to outcome. It is also intimidating to paint large if you have not painted large before like me. Nikol always reminds you to have fun and enjoy the process (it is just paint). She is great!!!
