Join Kara Bullock in GEISHA where you will dive into the world of one of Japan's oldest traditional professions! "Gei" in Japanese means "art" and "sha" means person. So, naturally we are all drawn to them because they are beautiful and amazing artists!! In this course, Kara has created five lessons to bring you into this beautiful world of art completely inspired by Geisha. Kara has curated many videos and images for your viewing to bring you into this world, and inspire you to create art in a variety of mediums. By the end of this course, you will have explored mark making, collaging, painting with acrylics, different substrates, and more, all while creating five beautiful artworks. We hope to see you in class!

DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS
This course will begin by giving you some background knowledge into the world/life of geisha. I have curated several videos for you to watch and learn from, along from being incredibly inspired by. Along with the videos, a Pinterest board has been created for you to ignite your own inspiration. I encourage you to begin your own interest board to gain inspiration.
After viewing the videos and Pinterest board, we will move into some warm up lessons. These lessons are really just to get you muscles moving and your mind excited. Sketch a few geisha images that you are inspired to draw. Next we will move into a mixed media lesson with two geisha under a cherry blossom tree. In this lesson we will explore using mixed media such as a photo, stabilo, gesso, and more. In the third lesson, we will play with collage, pattern and color. It will be a lot of fun!
Our final lesson, and one of my favorite pieces EVER, will teach us how to draw a larger scale figure on a wood panel. We will play with texture, collage, and pattern. I will share a few tools that I enjoy using to create raised patterns on her kimono. Discover an easy method to drawing hands! I couldn't end this class without a bonus lesson! I am intrigued by the make up that geisha use and how perfect it looks, even on the nape of their neck! So, the final lesson was inspired completely by that and I think it is a fun way to finish off! These lessons are all very colorful, and super playful!

This course will have a private Facebook group just for you! The artist will be actively involved with the class via Facebook the first four weeks the course is open! After that the course will be a self-study. The artist may or may not be involved after the four weeks. We are looking forward to seeing your artwork!

- Wood Cradle Board – 11×14 and 18×24
- Canvas – 11×14
- Toned Gray Charcoal Paper OR Pastel Paper – Assorted Colors
- Journal/sketch/mixed media paper – something to sketch
- Various paint brushes
- Matte Medium
- Charcoal pencil – black and white – black 2B, 4B and 6B
- XL Charcoal set
- Neocolors II
- Fine Line Applicator
- Liquid Gold Leaf
- Colored pencils or pastel pencils – can use Neos instead
- Walnut Ink
- Graphite – pencils
- Gesso – white and black (or black acrylic)
- Scrap papers/craft papers
- Credit card or palette knives
- Variety of acrylic paints. All paints are Golden Heavy Body. Colors will be listed soon
- Titanium White
- Carbon Black
- Napthol Red Light or other red
