I have met some lovely artists over the past few years in portrait classes all over the world (what a wonderful bunch of creative souls! and through them came across let’s face it 2019. It was all focused on portraiture (my thing). I learnt so much from not only the teachers but the students too. Karas classes offer so much variety and no matter where you are in your artistic journey, theres always something to take, that adheres to your creative thinking. It just suddenly reveals itself in your work! I admire everyone in Kara’s community and met a wonderful new friend in my country doing an art swap that Kara arranged. Lifelong friendships, new skills, new mediums, new apps, something for everyone. I am where I am today because of karas generosity and commitment to making art enjoyable, rewarding and part of who we are. Thank you Kara xx

Kara’s LFI course was my first experience with online learning and I was hooked! Since I am mainly a portrait artist, her focus on faces really appeals to me. The classes on Kara’s site have exposed me to so many artists and the opportunity to learn the various techniques they use. Whether advice or a technique, tool, or color, I come away with something from every class learning something that enhances my own style. Kara Bullock Art is the best!

I first found the Deb Weiers classes offered by Kara, which I loved as they are so fun. Since then, I have signed up for several other classes, including Let’s Face It 2021. All the classes have taught me new techniques and introduced me to me art supplies and how to use them. I feel like I am growing as an artist thanks to the classes and the online community. We moved into a rural area 2 and 1/2 years ago from a city center. I enjoy my own company but with covid I was really missing my monday night painting class get togethers with other artists. I missed the feedback and the social aspect as well. Now I get a feeling of connection and some terrific feedback which helps me grow not only as an artist but as a human being. Kara’s LFI series has been life changing. The yearlong series with 20+ instructors, in a subject that was totally intimidating to me (portraits) got me to a place where I am proud of my work, and encouraged to take it to the next level: sharing it publicly and moving into it professionally. It’s lit a passionate fire in me: I can’t wait to paint and am now brave enough to try just about anything. It’s been a wonderful surprise!

I have been taking Let’s Face It classes for several years now. It has been a life changing journey for me. Art and my day to day life are completely intertwined. Over the years, LFIT has inspired me, taught me discipline in my art, and many different techniques to enhance my work. I have completed the majority of lessons and this has provided me with structure. There have been so many teachers to provide the opportunity to grow and learn from. LFIT allows me to work from home when it’s convenient for me. Truly love these classes and look forward to LFI 2020!

Thanks to Kara, and LFI 2018 and 2019, I been introduced to various media and amazing instructors! I have reached the point where I am able to gift people art work. And they seem to even like what they see! I had previously dabbled in landscapes, but my growth in rendering portraits and figures is measurable. My art teaching career began with Kara. In 2016, I was a student in ‘Let’s face it’ which I absolutely loved. I was fortunate to come back the following year as a Teacher! I then went on to complete Kara’s course I.TEACH.ONLINE which helped me immensely in the setting up of my first online course ‘DAZZLE me with colour’ through my website. Kara’s easy to understand course (even for a non-techie like me) and her wonderful support was invaluable.
I continue to teach online and as well as in person classes in my local area.

I started working with Kara in 2018 after she invited me to join her network with a solo course. At the time, I had what I considered very little experience with teaching art and honestly wasn’t sure if I should pursue it or not. What I appreciated about Kara was that – instead of pushing in a certain direction – she offered the security of her own experience and business network. I feel that that gave me the confidence to go ahead and do the work, leaving planning and marketing in her capable hands. I got to know Kara as a sensitive person with very clear goals; it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to talk to her about both insecurities as well as business goals and not having to pretend they don’t go hand in hand. I appreciate her drive to move forward and improve on things even when they are currently successful and I’m looking to be part of her network for a long time to come.

I have worked with Kara both on one of her Group collaboration courses (Let’s Face It 2018) as well as a solo workshop in 2019(Fluid Figures).  My Solo workshop with Kara was my first one and even though she is planning and staging so many other workshops, she always made me feel important, like I was the only one.  Communication was always fast, considering our different time zones.  Kara is always available, always flexible with ideas and an absolute dream to work with. She is Professional but also manages to be personable, friendly and open.  I do not hesitate to recommend Kara and I hope to work with her again in the very near future.

Just finished a workshop at Kara’s studio with Martin Campos and I am really fired up to do some painting. The studio set up with the model was wonderful and of course having someone like Martin come to Southern California was amazing. We covered so much information that it is mind boggling yet the slide shows and demos added the necessary cohesion. We had fun, we created, and I met some absolutely lovely people in the process. Looking forward to another workshop and the upcoming sketch night.

I found Kara’s studio through Robert Kelley’s instagram – I always admired his amazing charcoals and I recall seeing some promotion with the word TUSTIN on it and I stopped in my tracks. If this dude was coming here, I was THERE. I walked in thinking I was a stranger, but really, I was coming home. Kara is fully invested in her attending artists and the artist/teachers she hosts. It is her level of care for art and the understanding that art requires a safe haven at times which shapes her studio into a rare retreat for the soul. Friendships are quickly forged and you are fully allowed to be, do, and become whoever you need to be to rise up to the art of the day. Hello!  My name is Jennifer Bonneteau and I am an artist, art instructor, and expressive arts wellness facilitator.  I met Kara Bullock through our online art community and had the privilege of collaborating with her on my first online painting course, Freeing Your Inner Frida.  It was an honor and a blessing to create my first online course (which has been quite successful) 😉 with Kara.  Throughout the course development process, Kara provided the perfect balance of vision, organization, creativity, professionalism, collaboration and autonomy.  Kara and I discussed ideas for the creative concept, artistic techniques and overall course structure together.  Once we had plan for the course, Kara provided me with a schedule of the course criteria and promotional deadlines as planned, which was super helpful! Kara was very supportive and provided answers whenever I had questions throughout the entire process. I honestly don’t know if I would have ever taken the leap to create my own course without Kara’s expertise, assistance and abundant encouragement.  I look forward to many more collaborations with Kara in the future!

If you ever have the opportunity to go to Kara’s studio for any class…go! It is the warmest most encouraging place to create. Kara has the best instructors there and they share the care and desire to give each student 110% of themselves, just as she does. I’ve had the privilege of taking classes there from the very first one. I highly recommend a class at Kara’s studio in Tustin. I have had the privilege of traveling to her studio for two different in-person workshops, and I have loved them both! Kara’s studio is just an awesome environment in which to learn and grow as an artist. She invites the most inspiring teachers, and you are surrounded by like minded artists that just love the process of creating art. I left both times, feeling I had learned something really valuable, but I also left refreshed and with renewed inspiration to try out new skills in my own studio. I have taken a lot of classes hosted by Kara. I have taken LFI 2016 Kara only, LFI 2017,2018 and 2019. All the different teachers and different materials gave me a huge boost in my way of drawing and painting. The greatest gift of all is to combine the different techniques. What I like about Kara is that she shares all of her knowledge and she is a great source of inspiration. It is also very good to see how Kara has developed her own style the last couple of years. That is also an inspiration to continue and to see that practice makes progress. My own most important success is that Kara gave me the inspiration and courage to paint on my quilts. Quilting was my number one hobby and I am so happy I can combine that with painting portraits. Thanks Kara, you feel like a true friend!

Although I have been a graphic artist for over 15 years, I have only been creating ‘real art’ for 4 years. When I first started I was pretty lost and did not know how to use half the supplies that I purchased. It became apparent pretty early on that my passion was to paint portraits, but my abilities did not match up to what I wanted to create and I was often disappointed with the final outcome. Whenever I tried to draw or paint a face, the features were always in the wrong place and the result was very unappealing.

What I love most about the Kara Bullock classes are the wide variety of techniques, lessons and teachers there are to choose from. There is always a perfect balance of lessons that are within my skill level mixed with others that are more challenging and really help me to push myself. I tend to take the lessons and make them my own but appreciate that many do include a step-by-step.

By the end of my second year of Let’s Face it, I felt like I was finally capable of creating work that I am satisfied with and proud to share. I can now confidently say to people that I am an artist and really believe it. The private facebook group is full of supportive and inspiring people at all levels of their art journey. Like many of us I have participated in many online groups, but none of them truly felt like home until now.

This July I going to attend my first in-person workshop at Kara’s studio in California and I could not possibly be more excited.

I have learned more than I can explain from the classes taken on Kara’s network. I tend to draw whimsical girls (which I love!) but taking classes such as Let’s Face is and The Art of the Sisterhood have helped me stretch my artistic muscles and try new things. I love that the classes I’ve taken are available forever. I also love the way the students in every class come together – helping and supporting one another the whole way! The Facebook groups for each class are so lovely – everyone is extremely kind to one another, yet there is also constructive assistance given if asked for. I have made so many friends in each course. I even got to meet some of them in October when I was able to join an in-person retreat with Ivy Newport. It was wonderful, and I feel like the friendships I’ve made are lasting. It’s great to have something in common with so many other people. It has been so fun to learn different techniques and how to produce art with so many different mediums. Even if something is not “my cup of tea”, I am still very grateful to have been introduced to it. I will always be grateful for what I have learned and what I will continue to learn!

When I retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers, I decided I wanted to more seriously pursue art, and portraits in particular. I found Kara Bullocks tutorials online along with some classes and so my journey began.

When Kara began creating her own classes and started a teaching platform, I was thrilled and jumped right in. I cannot begin to explain how thrilled I am with the progress I have made in my art journey! I have won blue ribbons for my work at the local Plus 60 art shows too and I finally feel I can say , ‘I am an artist’!

I can not say enough about all Kara’s classes and those she hosts with and for other teachers. Being able to get feedback on facebook from teachers and other students is also so valuable! I have made new long distance friendships that I cherish and seeing everyone’s work is so inspiring! HIGHLY recommended!! What a BARGAIN too!

Finally, I like how organized and easy to use Kara’s website is. I like to be able to see my progress and I find it easy to get to whatever lesson I want to do in whichever course. My only problem now is that there are NOT enough hours in the day to do it all!”

I do not sell my art, but I am hoping to one day be able to do that after I figure out what my style is or what style I should follow. Without Kara’s classes I feel as though I would not have the confidence to some day attempt this. I can not thank you enough for all that you do. I have taken most of the classes offered on the Kara’s website, beginning with Let’s Face It 2016. That was actually the very first online art class I ever did. From that very first experience to now, I have learned and grown so much in my art. I’ve learned about the importance of value and how to draw a face more realistically. I have seen so much growth in my art with the help of Kara’s courses, it’s truly been an amazing experience. The community of people are so encouraging and supportive it’s given me the confidence to share my art and not be afraid.

One of the things that is different about Kara’s classes compared to other’s is the amount of attention that is devoted to learning how to draw and/or paint a face. I really appreciate this because I always try to choose online classes that include this and there are very few out there who offer this and offer it so completely!

There is a saying that you cannot teach old dogs new tricks. Well I am writing this to tell you they are wrong, well at least in my case they are. This is my third year of taking Kara’s Lets Face It online classes. In a word I say WOW. Kara’s classes has helped me so much, giving me confidence that I can get back into art and just express myself and teach me new techniques. Not to mention just hanging out with a good group of artists. I love it that everyone is so encouraging.

After years of not painting, I somehow found Kara’s world, it made me think even though I have been out of the traditional art world maybe I can get it back, the feeling of starting with the dreaded empty canvas and creating what your heart feels. Well lo and behold these classes have helped me and set me on the path of seeing again and putting what I see either in my head or eyes on a canvas or paper. If it had not been for Kara’s classes that would not happened to me I do believe. She has opened the door of art again to me and I admit, this old dog didn’t think that could happen. What have I learned from Kara’s online classes? Quite simply, I learnt how to paint! After a lifetime of design and drawing, I finally lost my fear of picking up a brush and began to paint. Not just to paint, but to have a toolbox of mediums, techniques, styles and tricks of the trade. Delving into mediums including acrylics, oils, mixed media and charcoal.

I started LFI in February 2017. This July (2019) I am having my first, solo exhibition. Who would have believed it?

Along this journey I have enjoyed the support and encouragement of both teachers and participants. I just wish some of them lived nearby as I feel I have made real friendships. The access to the super talented, but approachable, teachers from around the globe is quite amazing. Kara herself is the perfect teacher and mentor. Take the course..it may change your life.

I am more than happy to say that Kara’s online courses have been a most valuable motivating and vital channel to my growing as an artist.

I have dabbled in creative stuff most of my life, but never had the courage to call myself an artist as the practice was too sporadic or hidden from the world. Since taking part in most of Kara’s online courses from 2017, I have developed more of an artist identity, gaining more confidence. This is in part due to the practice of weekly lessons and being cheered on along the way by such a beautifully caring and supportive network of other online like- minded artists. I am much more devoted to my art practice because of this. I thoroughly enjoy the mutual sharing online of completed art and encouragement that goes along with it. All this is so important to my artistic journey over the last 2 or so years.

I appreciate Kara’s teaching experience and how that is evident in her classes, producing art that is not only enjoyable but at a level I find I have room for developing further and keeps me stretched. I also appreciate Kara’s transparency and realness in her art processes throughout the classes she takes. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the classes ‘Geisha’ and ‘Charcoal Like Mad’.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative courses I have taken, ‘Let’s Face It 2017, 2018’ and am now currently doing ‘Let’s Face It 2019.’ It is so delightful to have various instructors with their various styles and different media portrayed. It keeps my art journey varied, interesting and richer for the knowledge shared. This provides a platform that sustains my creativity often as I continue to develop my own style, always exploring, always learning.

This is my third year in Let’s Face It and I continue to love it. Kara was the first online courses I found. Prior to taking the first few courses, I tried painting but always felt like I had no potential, I had no talent. Those first two courses gave me the courage to try more – I am now addicted to online courses. I love to learn. I love to see and learn from different artists and I have grown so much! Painting still challenges me, but every once in a while I create something that makes my heart sing. It is often inspired by Kara’s classes. Her school’s classes, offer clear instruction, from a variety of incredibly talented teachers, and most of all Kara inspires me! Kara has taken all of us on her journey as an artist. I have watched her grow as an artist. I have also been privy to her challenges as an artist and I look at her and I know that I can do this too. A couple of weeks ago I realized art is my craft, it is my passion, it is what makes my heart sing. Kara did that for me. Kara created an open and caring community that supports the continuous process of becoming an artist. I am an artist. That is Kara’s gift to me.

My art journey started by default. Last year, I made a casual comment to a friend about her upcoming art class in watercolor. She invited me to join her, and I couldn’t find a reason to say no. Let me fill-in some important information. My only exposure to art instruction was when I was a high school student. I never learned about technique or theory. I had someone who could draw do the sketch, and I’d fill it in. Not exactly the method to hone or develop skills. Fast forward 50+ years, and I found myself in a watercolor class. The good news is I never knew watercolor was “hard”. Because I like books, I found artists who said drawing was not important. BINGO, I found my muse. Just slap the paint on the paper with some water, and you have a painting.

With more research and watching of various online instruction, I learned you can’t do any kind of art if you can’t draw. So, I signed up for “how to draw” classes online. I was instructed to draw 100 circles a day for the rest of my life. That’s fine, except I started this whole journey a bit late. As fate was on my side, I started seeing links to Kara’s FACES classes. I loved ALL the styles of drawing from the realistic to the more abstract. I must admit, I put off my registration, but fate would have none of my procrastination. This year, 2019, I took the challenge, and I’m loving every minute. I’m learning to let go, observe more, be patient but move on. I’m only on class 4, so I expect there’s plenty more to fill-in all I don’t know, and that’s a great deal. Each class takes a different approach with different medium. I’m picking up art tools that I might have never considered and trying things I might have avoided. I’m very impressed with the teaching. Each class has videos that take you step by step through the process. You also have support materials. It’s everything you need to feel comfortable and be successful. In addition to FACES 2019, I signed up for Fluid Figures and an upcoming class on using values in portraits. I can watch at my own pace, and repeat viewing many times. It’s a win-win.

Being part of the art community has allowed me to be inspired by people who are taking this journey with me. I see there are many ways to interpret something, many ways to see color and line, and there is no one ‘right” way. The people in this group are always generous with their praise and careful with their comments. It’s safe.

This opportunity came to me at the perfect time in my life. I’m a retired high school English teacher who spent over 40 years talking about the art of literature. I spent plenty of time with a piece of chalk in my hand, but now it has taken on new meaning. I live in a community that fosters art, Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and because of our winters, I have plenty of time to practice.

I encourage you to take action. You’ll learn more than you thought you needed, and it won’t require 100 circles a day.”

I completed the Acrylic Portraits, Watercolor Style and loved it! I tried it because I liked the watercolor look – and because I thought painting a portrait would be challenging. I really didn’t think I could do it until I saw the process.

I produced two portraits for my niece and nephew as gifts and they were thrilled. The technique not only helped me to understand the methods for portraits, but is also helping with other images (birds and abstracts) and general color theory. The class helped me to understand the length of time it takes for the painting to develop from simple line work into something amazing. I connected with instructor’s layering techniques and calm presentation.

I am a fairly new mixed media/portrait artist and I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with the classes that are offered. They are exceptionally well recorded and easy to follow and understand. I must admit I have signed up for almost all of them because I love them so much. I am in Ontario, Canada so I am not able to get to the live workshops easily. I have learned so much and I value the material, the content and the great teachers. I find that in comparison to some other courses these classes are comprehensive, clear, concise and affordable which is an added bonus. Kara is generous with her sales as well and really encourages us as students to jump in, learn and create. I love making portraits and I find that these courses are highly valuable for a new beginner trying to learn how to draw the face. I have really seen a difference in my art since I started and contribute a lot of this development to my participation in the classes. I am even getting requests to make art for other people which is way beyond my expectations. I highly recommend taking them!! You will learn so much and you will be so happy you treated yourself to professional training and great artists. And being a part of a community is so encouraging. We all grow together and the feeling of support is always there. I am truly happy I found you Kara Bullock!!!

I have learned so much from Kara’s courses. I’ve learned to step outside of my comfort zone and this has enabled growth. I have met a wonderful community of fellow artists and received support and encouragement, which has been invaluable.

In Let’s Face It, there are a number of guest teachers, all who bring their own experience and style to their teaching, enabling me to develop my own style. I have learned about different mediums, and become proficient in all of them. For example, I didn’t paint in acrylics before taking Kara’s classes; I painted in oil (and I still do) but am much more competent in acrylics now; I love using both.

Working with Kara really helped me to see where I could take my art business. She helped me to develop a plan for both teaching in-person workshops, and classes online. I had no idea how to put together an online class, but she helped make it seem so easy. Kara has taught me how to make things happen. She has really helped me to see my own value as an artist and instructor. On top of being a great business woman, and art mentor, she is really generous and caring. Kara is just a good person and I am happy to have her in my corner!

In the 3 years that I have been connected with Kara Bullock, taking classes with her and learning how to build my business with her, I have to come to truly admire her expertise and professionalism which are equally matched by her warm-hearted willingness to help.
