Hello friends! One of Japan’s oldest traditional professions is the Geisha! “Gei” in Japanese means “art” and “sha” means person. So, naturally we are all drawn to them because they are beautiful and amazing artists!!
Geisha often leave their homes as teenagers to carry out their dreams of becoming a Maiko or Geisha. They attend school and are trained in art, music and dancing. They wear beautiful kimonos and obis, and entertain people from around the world. I think what is most attractive about the Geisha is how little is really known about their lives. Much of their experiences are kept secret, and only those truly close to them will really know what their day to day life is like.
For this class, we will study the Geisha by viewing pictures and videos to learn more about them and to inspire us as we create our projects! Here is a sneak peak of my Pinterest Board that I will share with you!
The lessons for this course include the following techniques:
- mark making with charcoal and oil sticks
- using gesso and Neos II to create texture
- collaging
- painting with acrylics
- mixing media on wood
Below are samples of some projects we will work on, but are not exact projects.
You will gain access to many hours of video in which I walk you through various mixed media techniques. We also have a special private FB group for this class! Any work created in the course is yours to keep or sell! Whoo Hoo! You will have life time access to this workshop and all videos will be downloadable. Join me in my Facebook community with others that are also taking my workshops to share your work and get feedback.

Testimonials
Debbie Wiggan, Australia – “I had the absolute pleasure of painting with Kara during a number of her workshops. One that I did recently was Her Darkest Everything, Although Kara is in the US and I’m in Australia, it still felt like she was in the room painting along with me! Her instructions are clear and you get to see every step of the process – you even learn that things can go wrong for an experienced artist and how to fix them too! Kara’s knowledge of online learning comes through when using her website as it is one of the easiest to navigate that I’ve come across. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to get into a class you’ve purchased, and that doesn’t happen here. Kara has also built a wonderful community of like minded souls – both as teachers and students. We all get to learn from each other and I can’t wait for her new course to come out next year.“
Beth Fryer Weatherford, Nashville, TN – “This was one of my favorite workshops I’ve ever taken! Kara was thorough in her step by step explanations and always great about answering questions along the way. Can’t wait to take her next workshop!“
Cindy Riordan, Mokena IL – “Kara’s simple straight forward teaching style was easy to understand and a joy to be a part of. I cannot wait to start my next painting with her in her next class. Thank you Kara!”
Deanna Strachan, Atascadero, CA – “I absolutely LOVED learning Kara’s layering technique! It’s amazing how something begins one way and ends up completely different, but you can still see all of the underlying layering and colors. Loved it!!!”
